Hilary’s Buttery Cinnamon Whirls

family cinnamon whirls recipe

method

My sister, Hilary, who gave me the idea for these cinnamon whirls says “The are really cute and provide a touch of sweetness, put a plateful out and the will disappear like strawberries in front of a donkey.” ??? Ever tried that? me neither!

  1. Cream together the butter and sugar. Add the egg and beat well.
  2. Add the flour, semolina and vanilla extract and mix together.
  3. Take half the mixture out of the bowl and roll into an oblong approximately 25 x 15cm. Add the cinnamon to the other half of the dough and mix well.  Roll out to the same dimensions on top of a piece of cling film.
  4. Carefully place one piece of dough on top of the other. Use the clingfilm to help roll up into a long sausage. Squeeze gently together and place in the fridge for an hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180ºC fan oven/200ºC/gas 6.
  6. Take the dough out of the fridge and cut into 1/2 cm slices and place on greased baking trays.
  7. Cook in the oven for 12 minutes.
